TWGHs Man Mo Temple 170th Anniversary Commemorative Gold Medal and Gold Bar Charity Sale
Man Mo Temple, located on Hollywood Road in Sheung Wan, was built in 1847. At the time Hong Kong opened its port to foreign trade, Man Mo Temple was a place not only for worshipping the Civil God and the Marital God, but also for Chinese people to discuss issues and resolve disputes. In 1908, with the enactment of the Man Mo Temple Ordinance, the temple and its properties were entrusted to the care of Tung Wah Hospital. In 1993, Man Mo Temple was graded as a Grade I historic building by the Antiquities Advisory Board and was declared as a monument in 2010 by the Hong Kong Government. The Board of Directors of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) follows the tradition of attending the annual Autumn Sacrificial Rites to pay homage to the two Gods and to invoke peace and prosperity for the people of Hong Kong.
To celebrate the 170th Anniversary of Man Mo Temple, TWGHs issued 888 sets of commemorative gold medal and some with gold bar set for charity sale. One side of gold medal and gold bar features the silhouette of Man Mo Temple inscription of 170th Anniversary. The other side bears the plaques “Shen Wei Pu You” and “Wan Wu Xian Li” bestowed by the Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty.
