Background : | In April of 2011, the government launched a 3-year pilot project on outreach primary dental care services by collaborating with non-governmental organizations including Tung Wah, to provides free basic dental examination and treatment to the elderly residing in Residential Care Homes for the Elderly (RCHEs) or receiving services in Day Care Centres for the Elderly (DEs). |
Target beneficiaries : | Elderly residing in RCHEs licensed by Social Welfare Department (SWD) and service users of DEs subsidised by SWD. |
Catchment area : | Eastern, Southern, Central & Western and Island Districts |
Scope of services : | Outreaching dental services include dental check-up, scaling, pain relief, and emergency dental treatment, etc. It also provides oral health education and guidance to the elderly, their families and caregivers of the RCHEs and DEs concerned on topics of daily oral care, so as to enhance the quality of life of the elderly. |
