Introduction
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers and the second most common cause of cancer death in Hong Kong with 2,304 death cases in 2014. It is anticipated that the number of colorectal cancer cases will increase further with the ageing population. Early stage of colorectal cancer may have no symptoms but result in end-stage discovery, while early cancer detection and treatment enables a high recovery rate. TWGHs Board of Directors thus allocated funding to establish an Endoscopy Centre at North Point, which provides colonoscopy and gastroscopy services, as well as specialist services such as gastroenterology and hepatology and health-check services.
The HKSAR Government has launched the “Colorectal Cancer Screening Pilot Programme”. The Centre is one of the registered service providers of the programme and provides free colonoscopy services to eligible participants.
