Chairman’s Message
As Chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs), I am excited and honoured to witness and celebrate the 145th anniversary of TWGHs, a new milestone of the Group, together with my fellow Board Members, all members of staff, and the Hong Kong community at large.
TWGHs was established over a century ago as the first civil charitable group in Hong Kong. Through the years, strong dedication to serving the public has driven it to grow and become the city’s biggest charitable organization. All along, it has adhered to its mission ‘to heal the sick and to relieve the distressed; to care for the elderly and to rehabilitate the disabled; to promote education and to nurture youngsters; and to raise the infants and to guide the youth’, while continuously strived to revolutionize its medical, education and community services and open up novel initiatives to meet the ever-changing needs. TWGHs’ work is interwoven with the life of the people of Hong Kong, with whom it works hand in hand to promote social development.
Having been a member of the TWGHs Board of Directors for years, I have had the privilege to take part in charitable work in various areas. I am truly impressed by TWGHs’ commitment to inspiring compassion through unceasing effort, and above all, the dedication of the professional team of staff members to serving the community. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for their contributions.
To celebrate TWGHs’ 145th anniversary, we have planned a whole year of exciting initiatives, including Radio-I-Care Tram and Classic Car Parade, a large-scale celebration event for traditional rituals, an exhibition on the Group’s history, a marathon for para-athletes, and medical seminar. These will showcase TWGHs’ all-round services, such as integrated Chinese and Western medicine, education, elderly, youth, rehabilitation and community services.
In addition, we are pleased to partner with Hong Kong Commercial Radio to roll out a series of programmes under the theme “Tung Wah Embraces Charity” (万大善事有东华), with the slogan “Keeping Benevolence Alive for 145 Years” (善在必行145), inviting various sectors to join us in celebrating TWGHs’ anniversary while providing them with a better understanding of the Group’s history and its role in charity. I hope the community, particularly the young people, will continue to support the work of TWGHs and help us spread the charitable spirit to every corner of Hong Kong.
Finally, I would like to thank all current and former members of the TWGHs Board of Directors, all the benefactors, the government, our partners and all those who have supported our work. We look forward to embracing a brighter future for and with the entire Hong Kong community.
Ms. Maisy HO
