Tung Wah provides education assistance grant for children from families affected by the Manila tragedy

On 26 August 2010, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) announced the setting up of a special fund to provide education assistance grant for children from families affected by the Manila hijack tragedy. The fund also aims to encourage those children and orphans to take a positive outlook on life.

TWGHs will be responsible for raising and managing the fund named TWGHs “Love Our Children” Education Fund with an initial target of HK$1 million for relieving plight of the children from families affected by the Manila tragedy. The fund will be used to cover the children’s tuitions and other education expenses until they finish tertiary education. The Social Welfare Department will help evaluate the needs and apply for assistance on behalf of the families in need, while the amount of assistance will be allocated according to specific condition of the various cases.

The TWGHs “Love Our Children” Education Fund will, without any deduction of administrative expenses, be wholly used for education assistance purpose. Donations can be made through the following designated bank accounts at any branches of:

Furthermore, TWGHs set up the CEASE Crisis Centre 24-hour Hotline and Tung Wah Care Hotline immediately on the day following the hijack incident. Traumatized citizens after watching the tragedy are encouraged to express their feelings to family and friends. Alternatively, they are welcome to call the emotional support hotlines for help:
