Chairman’s Message

Chairman Mr. SZE Wing Hang, Ivan

Since 19th century, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has been serving the community at all times via various services for people in need.

As the Chairman, I am pleased to share a piece of good news that we proudly received the Humanitarian Award under the Historymakers Awards conferred by the Chinese American Museum of Los Angeles, United States, honouring our contribution to the American Chinese community. Not only does this recognise our philanthropy services but also encourages us to keep up our spirit and carry on serving the society.

We also brought world-class music performance to Hong Kong. In July, we organised the Hong Kong International Percussion Festival 2014 and were glad to have Percussion Claviers de Lyon here to perform their West Side Story concert for the first time in Asia. A series of training activities and master classes were also arranged to nurture local percussionists.

Helping people who recovered from mental illness to re-enter the society is a realization of true social inclusion. Lok Hong Integrated Community Centre for Mental Wellness founded by TWGHs in 2010, has been serving people concerned and their family members through community support and rehabilitation services. Earlier in February this year, the Centre opened a new establishment titled iCare Kitchen to provide training and job opportunities for the discharged mental patients, aiming to help them develop their social life and getting back into the society.

We are looking forward to realizing the Tung Wah spirits and creating a harmony society though the provision of quality services for the betterment of the community.

Humanitarian Award conferred on TWGHs by Chinese American Museum in Los Angeles, United States

TWGHs was conferred with the Humanitarian Award by Chinese American Museum for its contribution to the Chinese American community in Los Angeles, United States. This reaffirms the efforts of TWGHs in philanthropy and the importance of TWGHs in the Chinese history.

In the late 19th century, TWGHs was connected with the overseas Chinese communities and served as the middle stop for their letters and money. Besides, reserving the Chinese traditions, we provided bone repatriation services for the deceased Chinese in America or other parts of the world back to their hometowns in the Mainland China. In the light of the above, TWGHs was awarded the Humanitarian Award.

Chinese American Museum, established in 2003, organises the Historymakers Awards annually to acknowledge individuals and institutions that have had significant impact on the Chinese American community.

It is truly honourable that TWGHs can be one of the awardees, manifesting the benevolent spirit globally. The award presentation ceremony will be held at the 18th annual Historymakers Awards Gala on 25 September 2014.
