Inauguration Ceremony of TWGHs Board of Directors 2025/2026
Rooted in Hong Kong for 155 Years: “Spreading Kindness and Charity Beyond Miles”

(Hong Kong, 1 April 2025)Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) has been serving Hong Kong for 155 years by relentless upholding its mission “To heal the sick and to relieve the distressed; to care for the elderly and to rehabilitate the disabled; to promote education and to nurture the youngsters; and to raise the infants and to guide the youth”. Keeping abreast of the times, TWGHs has persistently innovated and optimised its services in order to meet the ever-changing needs of the society and the general public. The Inauguration Ceremony of the TWGHs Board of Directors 2025/2026 was held at the Assembly Hall of Tung Wah Hospital today (1 April 2025), graced by the presence of the Hon. MAK Mei Kuen, Alice, SBS, JP, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, as the officiating guest. It marked the new Board of Directors’ commitment and dedication to leading TWGHs towards a new milestone on the philanthropic journey, advancing innovative and forward-thinking initiatives to better serve the wider community.

The Hon. MAK Mei Kuen, Alice, SBS, JP, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, presented testimonials to the Board Members and Advisers. She also administered the oath of the 2025/2026 Board Members, including Mr. HO Yau Kai, Orlando, the Chairman, Mr. TSENG Hing Yip, York, the 1st Vice-Chairman, Ms. CHOI Ka Yee, Crystal, the 2nd Vice-Chairman, Mr. Jonathan NG, the 3rd Vice-Chairman, Mr. LEE Kwong Yee, Jason Joseph, the 4th Vice-Chairman, Ms. Jennifer YEUNG, JP, the 5th Vice-Chairman, along with Mr. CJ YAO, Mr. MA Ka Tat, David, Miss ZHENG Wanyu, Anastasia, Miss TAM Cheuk Yee, Aisha, Mr. CHAN Man Kui, Andrew, Ms. Joyce LAM, Mr. Tony CHENG, Ms. Nikki ZHAN, Mr. LEUNG Man Him, Vincent, Mr. MAK Tak Chuen, Paul, Mr. Eric SUN, Mr. Johnny NIU, Mr. Chris NG, JP and Miss Nicole KIANG, the Directors.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the Hon. MAK Mei Kuen, Alice, SBS, JP, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, said, “it gives me great pleasure to join you all to celebrate the Inauguration Ceremony of TWGHs Board of Directors 2025/2026. On behalf of the HKSAR Government, I offer my sincerest gratitude to Ms. TANG Ming Wai, Mandy, the Chairman and the Board of Directors 2024/2025, for your leadership and dedication to TWGHs’ diverse charitable endeavours over the past year. And I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the new Board of Directors. As the Board of Directors 2025/2026 officially assumes office today, I am confident that the new Chairman, Mr. HO Yau Kai, Orlando and the Board Members will continue to uphold and further enhance TWGHs’ philanthropic ethos of healing the sick and relieving the distressed, leveraging their talents and vision.”

Mr. HO Yau Kai, Orlando, Chairman of the Board of Directors 2025/2026, expressed in his inaugural speech that he has been involved in the work of the TWGHs Board of Directors since 2016. “This year, I will lead the Board of Directors 2025/2026 to shoulder the key responsibility of overseeing TWGHs’ charitable endeavours. With the governance motto of ‘Spreading Kindness and Charity Beyond Miles’ we will remain steadfast in our dedication to serving the broader public and presents unlimited possibilities, which inspired by the unwavering commitment of our predecessors to advancing benevolence.”

To celebrate the 155th Anniversary of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals this year, a Chinese-style archway erected at the entrance of Tung Wah Hospital was used to design the 155th Anniversary logo. The symbol for infinity “∞”, was incorporated into the number “155”, aligning with the Anniversary theme “Kindness makes a difference”. The slogan and the innovative logo embody the Group’s ongoing charitable efforts bridging the past with the future; they creatively and energetically passed down the spirit of charity through generations, expanding diverse and varied services while promoting historical and cultural heritage. Mr. HO Yau Kai, Orlando, the Chairman, said, “I sincerely invite the general public to participate in the TWGHs’ 155th Anniversary celebratory activities, to gather the love and kindness from all sectors of society, support the development of our services, and work together to make a more profound contribution to the future of Hong Kong, extending the reach of good deeds across thousands of miles.”

Mr. HO Yau Kai, Orlando, the Chairman, said that the Board has already, in its Annual Plan, drawn up more comprehensive and precise initiatives for TWGHs’ services in the coming year, as it aims to address various needs for the benefit of people’s livelihood. Thanks to the support of the Government and various sectors of the society, the number of the Group’s service units has been increased to 392, and the recurring expenses including those of medical services for the coming year will exceed $13.3 billion. Additionally, the Group is also in the process of planning and launching multiple large-scale construction projects spanning several years, including implementing Kwong Wah Hospital Redevelopment Project Phase 2, operating the Central and Western District Health Centre and 3 District Health Centres Expresses – namely “Women Wellness Satellites”, school reprovisioning projects, an elderly home reconstruction plan, introduction of continuous support programmes for carers of the elderly and disabled, construction and operation of the 3rd Transitional Housing project – Yuen Long “T-Loft@Lau Fau”; Tung Wah Coffin Home will establish a multimedia exhibition room to introduce its services and the history of burial in the place of origin. TWGHs will also promote the all-round development of youth by utilising TungPo as a flagship while organising various overseas and mainland exchange activities for teachers and students to enrich students’ diverse learning. We will remain committed to a cautious budgetary strategy in the execution of various development initiatives, and will monitor TWGHs’ operations through effective administrative measures. In short, TWGHs will put the best use every cent from public donation and transform benevolence into appropriate welfare services, striving to reach out to more Hong Kong people in need.

Since its establishment in 1870, TWGHs has been all along upholding its mission “To heal the sick and to relieve the distressed; to care for the elderly and to rehabilitate the disabled; to promote education and to nurture the youngsters; and to raise the infant and to guide the youth.” Nowadays, TWGHs is the largest charitable organisation with the longest history in Hong Kong. For more than one and a half centuries, TWGHs has persistently pioneered and marked significant milestones in medical and health, education, community, preservation of historical and cultural heritage, and traditional services to fulfil the needs of the society and to provide the public with high quality services at low rates or for free. Today, TWGHs operates 392 services units, including 5 hospitals, 37 Chinese and Western medicine services units and 1 community pharmacy, 60 education services units, 257 community services units that cover elderly, youth and family, rehabilitation, social enterprises and social innovation services, 3 transitional housing projects, 1 Geospatial Lab (Operating Partner), 1 recycling store, 2 records and heritage service units, namely, Tung Wah Museum and TWGHs Maisy Ho Archives and Relics Centre that aim to protect and preserve local traditional culture and history, as well as 25 traditional service units, offering funeral and burial services, and temple and ritualistic services.
