Tung Wah created a new Guinness World Record with a reunion of 958 Kwong Wah Hospital babies at the centenary charity walkathon

The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals was officially announced a record holder of a new Guinness World Record — “Largest Reunion of People Born at the Same Hospital” on 16 January 2012.

To raise funds for Kwong Wah Hospital’s services and in celebration of the Hospital’s centenary anniversary, the Group organized a large-scale charity walkathon on 9 October 2011, the birthday of Kwong Wah Hospital. 3,000 participants, including 958 persons aged from 4 months to 65 years born in Kwong Wah Hospital, have attended to create the new Guinness World Record of “Largest Reunion of People Born at the Same Hospital”.

The walkathon, officiated by Mr. TSANG Chun-wah, John, GBM, JP, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR, has raised over $3 million to support the Kwong Wah Hospital’s expansion of medical services. All direct costs of the event have been sponsored by Title Sponsor “LAFYETTE Wedding” and Tung Wah Board of Directors and no administrative expenses would be deducted from the donations.

As an initiative to celebrate the centenary celebration of Kwong Wah Hospital, Tung Wah also introduces a new “Monthly Donation Scheme for Medical Services” to enhance medical and health services of the Group, and to support the underprivileged and the sick. For donation enquiries, please visit https://www.tungwah.org.hk/ or the Group’s donation hotline 1878 333.

Since its establishment in 1870, Tung Wah has been all along upholding its mission “To heal the sick and to relieve the distressed; to care for the elderly and to rehabilitate the disabled; to promote education and to nurture youngsters; and to raise the infants and to guide the children.” Nowadays, Tung Wah has become the largest charitable organization in Hong Kong.
