Commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Birthday of Dr. SUN Yat Sen: TWGHs Students High-Speed Rail Tour in China
TWGHs and Greater China Ltd. co-hosted a series of educational events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birthday of Dr. SUN Yat Sen. They included 2 lectures held on 30 April and 7 May 2016, which provided insight into Dr. Sun’s lifetime story, and the 8-day “TWGHs Students HighSpeed Rail Tour”, taken part by 75 TWGHs students.
The kick-off ceremony of the Tour was held on 29 June 2016. It was a great honor for us to have
various government officials and important community leaders at the Event to encourage the
students. Mrs. Katherine MA, Chairman cum Honorary Supervisor, Ms WU Po Lam, Pauline, MH,
Chairperson of Greater China Ltd. and Member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, Mr. KONG Johnny Shan, leader of the Delegation, and Mr. CHAN Ngok Pang, Ronald, JP, Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, gave remarkable speeches, followed by the oath-taking of 6 student representatives and the delivery of a speech by the student representative of the Tour.
The 75 TWGHs students and their teachers embarked on the journey in Shenzhen, from where they travelled to Zhuzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai on the high-speed rail from 10 to 17 July 2016. They joined 75 Shanghai students in Nanjing and visited various attractions, including Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s Mausoleum, The Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, and the Defense of Sihang Warehouse. They also attended lectures at Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and visited the sisterschools in Minhang District.
The concluding event on 15 July 2016 served as a platform for students from both Shanghai and Hong Kong to share their experience and learning, including their understanding on Dr. Sun’s patriotism and contributions, Chinese history and the development of the country. TWGHs Board Members, as well as various Chinese officials and social leaders joined the event to show their support to the students and teachers. The Event ended with the group song sung by all guests and students in unison.

Both Shanghai and Hong Kong teachers and students participated in a memorial service at Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s Mausoleum.
