Renowned Artists and Celebrities from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan Go Beyond for Charity
The Most Heartening Skateboard Deck Art In Support of TWGHs Students’ Art & Music Education

[13 August 2020, Hong Kong] This year marks the 150th anniversary of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs). With full support by Sotheby’s Hong Kong (Sotheby’s), the TWGHs 150th Anniversary: Skateboard Deck Art Online Exhibition cum Charity Auction is going to be held from 18 to 28 August 2020 on Sotheby’s website (www.sothebys.com/tungwah150). The Event will showcase nearly 60 lots of ingenious skateboard deck art in diversified art forms and themes, designed by renowned artists and celebrities from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, as well as TWGHs i-dArt artists. Each lot is unique and is available for Online Charity Auction to raise funds in support of TWGHs students’ art and music education.

Echoing the theme of TWGHs 150th Anniversary, For Charity, We Go Beyond, the Event notably adopted skateboard as the creative medium, which brings charity, arts, street culture and auction together for the first time ever. It represents the service pledge of TWGHs to the general public, where they work indefatigably to be innovative and to pursue perfection.

The Event’s e-catalogue is now available on Sotheby’s website. Members of the public are welcome to visit www.sothebys.com/tungwah150 to get to know more about the Auction and browse the full set of skateboard deck art, as well as creating an account on Sotheby’s website or mobile app to prepare for placing a bid.

“Since its establishment, for 150 years Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has been committed to serving the citizens, whatever challenges we are facing, and being innovative,” said Ms. Ginny MAN, the Chairman of TWGHs. “This Event is one of our anniversary initiatives to raise funds in support of TWGHs students’ art and music education. In response to the latest COVID-19 prevention measures, the physical exhibition of the event at the Gallery will now be replaced by an online virtual tour. All members of the public, while staying at home, can enjoy the art tour featuring street culture, charity and bidding in one-go on the same Event website. On behalf of the Board of Directors, may I express our heartfelt gratitude to the unfailing support from Sotheby’s in generously organized the Online Exhibition and Charity Auction, and will further donate all buyer’s premium and overhead premium to TWGHs in support of the good cause. We are particularly grateful to present the skateboard deck art designed by our alumni across different sectors, including Mr. Pakho Chau, famous Hong Kong singer, Mr. Lum Chun Yip, Even, the second generation owner of Lan Fong Yuen, a local longstanding brand, Mr. Choi Wing Kee, a master of flower plaque making, which is enlisted as Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage, and Mr. Andy Hung, the first Chinese LEGO® Certified Professional and the 13th person awarded with this title worldwide. Their participation indeed demonstrated the achievement of our education services over the years.”
